What's in it for you?
- Same beloved product but now in a snappable solid serum bar, so you can use what you want when you want and keep the rest fresh and clean for later.
- Fresh portobello mushrooms are rich in vitamins B and C, and believed to have antioxidant properties.
- Chamomile blue, rose and organic cold-pressed almond oils soothe sensitive skin.
- Murumuru butter is a source of vitamin E to support skin barrier health.
- Creamy murumuru and cupuaçu butters stem the loss of water from the skin, helping to keep the your complexion looking supple and feeling soft.
- Unlike our richer Argan Naked Facial Oil, this serum has a water phase (technically a rose petal infusion phase) introducing more water content into the product and making it lighter on the skin. Lovely if you like your serum quickly absorbed.

How to use: Use this dreamy facial serum every night, Monday through Sunday, to keep your skin feeling soft and looking lovely. Now snappable, each segment is the perfect shape for facial massage to maximize the effects on application. Break off a segment and sweep across the brow bone and up over the cheekbones, allowing the warmth of your skin to gently melt the butters and oils. Work in with clean fingers using upward strokes to encourage a natural glow and promote a lifted look.
How to store: This product is made with ingredients that allow it to soften at around body temperature. During hot spells, it may melt. Store in a pot or Lush tin in a cool, dry place to use again and again.
Melt Warning: This product was made to melt on contact with skin which means it also melts easily in warmer weather. We recommend picking it up in-store rather than having it delivered.
A staple in cosmetics, the tear-shaped almond is beloved for its moisturising oil, soothing properties and comforting scent.
Almonds are the seeds of the almond tree, which belongs to the plum family (Prunus). Its fruits share considerable similarities with those of its relatives, such as apricot and peach. These crops flourish in sunny regions, such as the Mediterranean, California, the Middle East, and North Africa. Hiding deep within the soft flesh of the fruit is a hard pit that reveals a tender almond when broken open.
There are two types of almonds: sweet and bitter. Sweet almonds, which grow on the Prunus dulcis tree, are the ones we eat. Their scent is very faint, if there's any. They can be ground, pressed into oil, or blended with water to produce milk. This explains why almond oil is often called 'sweet' almond oil. On the other side, bitter almonds (Prunus amygdalus amara) are not suitable for consumption, but they can be distilled into a fragrant essential oil, renowned in perfumery.
In general, almond-derived products are soothing and conditioning to the skin and hair, as well as being emollient and packed with vitamin E (an antioxidant).
But the benefits also depend on the type of ingredient, of course. For example:
Almond oil is moisturising.
Ground almonds gently exfoliate the skin.
Almond essential oil has a sweet, cherry-like aroma.
Almond butter is even more moisturising than the oil.
We use a lot of almond-derived products, so don’t hesitate and browse your Lush product’s list of ingredients to click on the ones you want to know more about. And if you like a good selection, here’s one!

The romantic scent of the rose is said to help restore inner balance and is considered by some to be an aphrodisiac.
Rose petals are the source of rose oil, which some say was the first floral essential oil to be distilled. Rose oil has been an important part of fragrances and flavours for thousands of years. It is perhaps the most beloved floral scent in the world. The many versions of rose materials that we include as key ingredients in our products have an array of different qualities that will serve your senses, your skin and your mind!
Depending on the concentration, roses products may:
Soothe
Balance
Subtly tighten the pores
Restore radiance
Improve elasticity
Reduce the appearance of broken capillaries
Rose flowers are used in our products in several forms (essential oils, infusion, petals, dried buds…) and each of them can be purchased in different places around the world. Humble flowers with super soothing powers.
There are many species of chamomile flowers, and they’re sometimes hard to differentiate from one another - even experts struggle! At Lush, we use two types, easily identifiable and well known in European folk medicine: the German chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla syn. Matricaria recutita) which resembles a daisy, and the Roman chamomile (Anthemis nobilis) that looks like a fuzzy ball of white petals.
Originally white in colour, the German chamomile flowers release a blue pigment when distilled into an essential oil. This is due to an anti-inflammatory compound that forms during steam distillation, called chamazulene. Hence the name: chamomile blue oil.
Soothing
Antiseptic
The flowers’ oils are believed to promote calm and restful sleep when inhaled. They’re often coupled with lavender as they share similar properties and complement each other scents.
Chamomile crops are so fragile that Lush buyers always need to have backup suppliers in case our current ones are unable to produce the amount we need. The source will also change depending on the type of ingredient (oil, dried flowers…) and species. Plant butters? A strange title, but what else could it be? It’s not plant-based butter, no, not the same thing. Let’s make up our own term for these solid blocks of fat, extracted from plant seeds, that moisturise the skin and hair.
Plant seeds are full of fats (and starches and nutrients) so that they can produce a shoot that will have enough energy to rise out of the soil and proceed with photosynthesis. It is these fats that have been consumed for millennia, pressed from the seeds by humankind to become well-known vegetable oils such as sunflower, rapeseed, coconut or palm oil. For plant butters it is the same thing! Except that, in their case, the fat is solid at room temperature, creating a 'butter'. The most famous example is cocoa butter in chocolate.
Shea, illipe, murumuru, cupuaçu, kokum - these are a few of the many plant butters we purchase from around the world, trying to find the most regenerative sources. Having multiple butters at hand helps in times of shortage, but more importantly, it allows for a wide choice of aroma, texture, melting point, and effects on skin and hair. At Lush, we love diversity… in all aspects of the business!

At Lush, we have a team of creative product inventors who love to try new ingredients, and a team of hard-working buyers who relentlessly try to fulfil their wishes. The tricky part is finding a supplier that meets our high standards and strict non-animal testing policy. Each of our seven manufacturing sites worldwide has its own team of buyers and therefore, its own unique sources for plant butters.
